JUDGING by two current gallery exhibitions, few contemporary photographers have learned how to cope with nudity and sex. Others, however, are so abstract that one is hard put to see subject matter at all, or so concerned with purely formal values texture, tone, the effects of light in volumetric space that they might as well be pictures of ordinary vegetables Ruth Bernhard and Henrietta Grindat. The few successful pictures In this exhibition show nudity and sex as somehow existing here in the world with the rest of us. Jill Freedman treats it as a comic spectacle.
