By Ebony Bowden. A six-year-old Florida girl was arrested, cuffed and fingerprinted after she threw a kicking tantrum in her Orlando elementary school class — and grandma is not happy. The girl suffers from sleep apnea, a condition she is working on managing through medication, and was acting out from sleep deprivation, the grandmother said — and never should have been hauled off from her Orlando elementary school in handcuffs. Kirkland said she received a call from someone at the elementary school informing her the tot was in police custody. Kaia was one of two children arrested that day — the other an eight-year-old tot — and an internal investigation is ongoing, according to local news website Click Orlando.

Here's how the authorities at Westridge Middle School handled the incident: School Resource Officer Dana Harrison, the school's police officer, arrested the girl and escorted her off the premises in handcuffs. She was taken to a juvenile detention facility, and will face a felony charge of threatening to commit violence. He'd been informed, he added, that she could be sentenced to a year in juvenile detention. According to the police, the girl was asked by another classmate which five people she would like to kill. She then pointed finger guns at several other students—several of whom had picked on her relentlessly, her family claims—and finally on herself. Neither the school's principal nor the resource officer immediately responded to a request for comment. But other authorities defended their decision to the Kansas City Star.
